Renaming Gear Items & Moving Items Between Groups
Rename Gear Items in Bulk and Move Items Between Groups
Objective
This article explains how to rename multiple gear items at once by editing a category and adding groups, then how to assign items to the correct groups from the inventory table. Use this process to keep item names organized and make dashboard and inventory views easier to manage.
Key Steps
1. Open the category you want to update 0:11
- Go to the relevant dashboard and locate the category you want to rename.
- Review the current category name to confirm it is too broad or unclear.
- Identify whether the category contains items that should be broken into smaller groups.
2. Edit the category name 0:31
- Click the three dots on the right-hand side of the category.
- Select Edit category.
- Update the category name to something more descriptive.
- Click Save to apply the new category name.
- Confirm the system renames all items in that category automatically.
3. Add groups to further organize the items 1:14
- Open More actions and select Edit category again.
- Go to the Groups tab.
- Click Add group and enter the first group name.
- Click Done to save the group.
- Repeat the process to add any additional groups needed.
- Verify the new groups appear under the category.
4. Review how the new category and groups affect item names 1:49
- Check the dashboard to see how the category name and group names combine to form item labels.
- Confirm the naming structure reflects the intended organization.
- Use this setup to rename many items consistently at once.
5. Assign items to the correct groups 2:06
- Watch for the notification indicating some items are missing from the new group table.
- Click the button to open the Inventory table.
- Review the items listed under the updated category.
- Select the items that belong in the first group.
- Use More actions > Move to and choose the correct group.
- Repeat for each group until all items are assigned.
6. Move items across pages as needed 2:29
- If the inventory spans multiple pages, continue selecting items on each page.
- Use More actions > Move to to place selected items into the correct group.
- Repeat this process for all pages until every item is categorized correctly.
- Verify that items now appear under the intended group names.
7. Confirm the updated results on the dashboard and inventory view 3:38
- Return to the dashboard and confirm the item counts reflect the new group structure.
- Open the Inventory view to verify the renamed items and group assignments are displayed correctly.
- Use sorting and filtering tools to review the updated organization.
- Ensure all items are accounted for and placed in the correct group.
Cautionary Notes
- Save changes carefully: Renaming a category updates all items in that category at once.
- Assign every item: Any items not moved into a group may remain unorganized or trigger missing-item notifications.
- Check counts after moving items: Confirm the dashboard totals match expectations after each update.
- Be careful when bulk-selecting: Make sure only the intended items are selected before using Move to.
Tips for Efficiency
- Use descriptive category and group names to make inventory easier to understand.
- Bulk-select items whenever possible to reduce manual work.
- Work page by page in the inventory table to avoid missing items.
- Verify changes in both the dashboard and inventory views to catch errors early.
- Use sorting and filtering to quickly locate items that still need to be moved.
