Applying a QR Code Label with a Handheld Mini Heat Press
Applying a QR Code Label with a Handheld Mini Heat Press
Objective
This SOP outlines the steps for properly positioning, heat pressing, cooling, and finishing a cold-peel QR code label on a garment using a handheld miniature heat press. Following this procedure helps ensure a secure, clean application with consistent results.
Key Steps
1. Prepare the garment and work surface 0:00
- Place a heat pressing mat on a stable, heat-safe work surface.
- Lay the garment flat over the mat.
- Position the QR code label where it should be applied.
- Smooth the fabric so the garment is nice and flat with no wrinkles or folds.
2. Select the correct heat setting 0:19
- Use the handheld heat press setting appropriate for the garment type.
- For most standard clothing items, set the press to Level 2, which reaches about 320°F.
- If the garment is finer or more delicate, reduce the heat slightly.
- If the garment is thicker, increase the heat as needed.
3. Cover the label with Teflon 0:37
- Place a Teflon sheet directly over the QR code label.
- Confirm the label is still visible through the Teflon so you can maintain accurate placement.
- Ensure the Teflon lies flat and fully covers the application area.
4. Press the label with firm pressure 0:43
- Lower the handheld heat press onto the covered QR code.
- Apply firm pressure for 10 seconds.
- Count steadily to ensure the full press time is completed.
- Release the press after 10 seconds.
5. Allow the label to cool 1:07
- Let the QR code label cool slightly before handling.
- This is a cold-peel label, so do not remove the backing immediately.
- Wait until the label is cool enough to peel safely and cleanly.
6. Peel the protective backing 1:16
- Once the label has cooled slightly, carefully peel away the protective backing.
- Check that the QR code is securely adhered to the garment.
- Confirm the edges are sealed and the label is properly applied.
Cautionary Notes
- Do not peel the backing while the label is still hot; this is a cold-peel application.
- Use caution when handling the heat press and heated materials to avoid burns.
- Adjust temperature based on fabric type to prevent damage to delicate garments.
- Make sure the garment is flat before pressing to avoid uneven adhesion or misalignment.
Tips for Efficiency
- Pre-position the QR code before heating to reduce handling time.
- Keep the Teflon sheet nearby for quick placement over the label.
- Use a consistent 10-second count for repeatable results.
- Prepare garments in batches by flattening and positioning them before pressing to improve workflow.
